Data Analyst

Our  client in the financial  sector and a Top Canadian Employer, offers challenging and rewarding opportunities. They are currently seeking  a Data Analyst to join  their  team.

Location: Toronto

Initial Planned Duration: 12 months


This role is focused on designing, developing, aligning and delivering best in class people analytics, that will enable the bank' s leaders to monitor their progress in their attraction, retention, deployment and development of a sustainable pipeline of senior leadership.

In addition to delivering on all People Analytics priorities and contributing to the management of the function, this role is also dedicated to supporting Talent & Leadership strategic initiatives and providing insight to help inform the human capital strategy.

The individual in this role will provide leadership and highly specialized advice/consultation in the analysis of very complex workforce management information related to the bank' s talent and overall workforce. This individual will provide strategic and comprehensive recommendations/proposals to management including executives, partners and business leaders.

In addition, this role will often be responsible for providing technical and professional advice/guidance on complex and conceptual issues to more junior specialized consultants, analysts and project leads. The creativity, innovation and lateral thinking to analyze and develop new approaches/solutions and to address organizational issues/concerns are very important aspects of the job.


Identify, share and support the implementation of best practice people analytics for the workforce and key talent segments:
  • Conduct broad-based, self-directed research of very complex workforce/talent information related to people analytics that is rapidly evolving/changing with significant organizational impact from an enterprise-wide perspective
  • Utilize creative thinking to modify or select the most suitable procedure/approach that results in providing the bank with optimum solutions to business issues/challenges.
  • Design and develop sophisticated forms/products for use in gathering very complex and conceptual information.
  • Consult with internal and external sources, colleagues, and others to obtain, provide, verify and discuss information and best practices.
  • Maintain a network of senior professional contacts in the field.

Work with colleagues in People Analytics and Talent & Leadership to develop reporting frameworks, strategically aligned management metrics, data and information flow for business processes, reporting standards and creative new highly customized and standard analytics deliverables. Conduct thorough investigations to fully understand underlying business issues:
  • Draw out and shape high-level business requirements from key stakeholders and translate into detailed, actionable work plans.
  • Determine data acquisition approach and processes.
  • Create and embed semi-automated and automated data validation, reconciliation and control processes.
  • Develop effective analytical and reporting frameworks and conduct in-depth data mining
  • Make decisions and provide authoritative recommendations regarding implementation of proposed changes.
  • Ensure alignment of metrics, processes and standardization, where appropriate, across the workforce and key workforce and talent segments.
  • Summarize results and document key messages for review with partners.
  • Prepare communication/presentation materials and present to senior executive audience.
  • Package reports and reporting processes and conduct knowledge transfer to enable on-going delivery in a production environment.

Design, develop and implement and make recommendations for the data architecture and strategy for the function:
  • Support the creation of the strategy and blueprint for the bank' s talent analytics processes and tools. Work with HR leaders to discern the highest value opportunities and with internal business partners to discern the potential for technology value-add. Articulate data architecture and data warehouse requirements, standards and methods relating to people analytics.
  • Proactively prepare for the anticipated growth in demand for information by building in scalability and the potential for highly controlled distributed access.

  • Comprehensive practical and theoretical knowledge in analytics (preferably with specific experience related to analytics and reporting on the workforce and talent pipeline)
  • In-depth experience data mining workforce and employee segmentation.
  • Well developed technical knowledge to perform complex analyses and make recommendations, e.g. applications (MS Word, Excel, Visio, Access, Tableau, SAS), workflow analysis and statistical techniques.
  • Experience in sourcing, harmonizing and reconciling global information, in the establishment of manual and automated controls to ensure data accuracy and one-truth metrics and in all aspects of confidentiality.
  • Experience in the creative analyses of the workforce and talent pipeline and in the development / delivery of custom and standardized reports, dashboards and presentations for a senior executive/board audience.
  • Experience identifying and resolving complex data anomalies and analytical challenges.
  • Experience resolving novel issues/problems by analyzing, interpreting and applying complex concepts and issues in innovative ways across a range of related activities.
  • Advanced consulting expertise, developed in professional services environment and as an internal service provider within a large organization:
  • Well developed program/project planning and management skills enabling prioritization and meeting of deadlines. Tasks in the planning process are unique and very complex.
  • Experience in the integration of data and information flow within business processes, and specifically strategic workforce planning and talent management, data collection and reporting processes enabling the production of required management information for all target audience levels.
  • In-depth understanding of technology platforms, software applications, semi-automated and manual business processes related to data and information flow
  • Experience in data security and management information governance functions, process requirements to ensure appropriate handling of all employee data and in particular sensitive data fields.
  • Experience in vendor management, partnering and negotiating for win/win solutions and all aspects of change request management.

Must-Have Skills/Experience:
  • 5+ Years of relevant work experience
  • Comprehensive practical and theoretical knowledge in analytics (preferably with specific experience related to analytics and reporting on the workforce and talent pipeline)
  • Consultative skills sufficient to provide detailed explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas that involve interpretation, analysis and assessment.
  • In-depth experience with data mining (preferably with specific experience related to mining workforce and employee segmentation data)
