Our  client in the insurance sector, has a challenging and rewarding opportunity. They are currently seeking  an Business Analyst  to join  their  team and act as the go between for their partner stakeholders and development group, in creating a Policy Administration System.

Location:

As a Business Analyst, you are responsible for delivering quality business analysis of required changes to processes, functions and/or products.    You will also work with the business, Information Technology and Project Management Office stakeholders to develop requirements or user stories, and ensure these are reflected in system and business process deliverables.

In this role you will:
  • Plan and facilitate business requirement gathering sessions with key stakeholders and subject matter experts
  • Prepare “ as is” and “ to be” process documentation and perform gap analysis to identify required changes
  • Document business requirements in the form of user stories with acceptance criteria, based on business analysis, to support required changes in applications, processes and  functions supported by the team
  • Prepare risk assessment of business requirements to support prioritization and scoping
  • Escalate identified risks as appropriate and participate in the development of recommendations for solutions.
  • Document and track decisions that arise from business analysis findings
  • Prepare new process and procedure documents
  • Ensure traceability of business requirements exist through to design and testing
  • Participate in functional and User Acceptance Testing efforts
  • Conduct business analysis to support various stages of the project management life cycle

 

What we are looking for…
  • A candidate with a College Diploma or University Degree in Business Analysis, Computer Science or Information Technology - or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years proven experience in the Investment / Life insurance industry
  • Experience working in an Agile environment with scrum including capturing business and technical requirements with users stories and acceptance criteria
  • Application knowledge and experience with general ledger and accounts payable including payment processing

• Hands-on experience with JavaScript, jQuery, RAD, Bootstrap, AngularJS and other JS
frameworks
• Knowledge of W3C standards, cross-browser compatibility, validation HTML markup, common  usability concepts, UX, consistency and accessibility
• IIS configuration and administration;
• Strong knowledge of development methodologies, Object-oriented analysis and design. Familiarity  with design patterns.
• Superior time management and estimation capabilities and ability to perform several tasks  concurrently.

Initial Planned Duration: 6 months

POSITION SUMMARY

The Business Analyst elicits client needs related to Fund Performance measurement and participates in delivery of the solution. The Business Analyst works with the solution team and documents business processes, information workflows and writes detailed functional specifications to support Teachers’ Investment performance management needs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Engages business clients to elicit business requirements and understand objectives
  • Produces business analysis related documentation, including (functional and non-functional) requirements, current and future state processes and workflows, and solution specifications to a high quality standard
    • Specifically, the analyst produces business requirements for data, identifies data sources and delivers data specifications for solutions
    • Works with data vendor manager to establish agreements for new external vendor content
    • Documents the flow and transformation of securities data from suppliers through securities data repositories and to end user applications
  • Conceives, proposes and facilitates the selection of viable functional solution alternatives
  • Works with business and solution teams to ensure that solutions being delivered meet business intent and provide business value
  • Works with QA teams to develop test plans and ensure they understand the business requirements and are able to test solutions appropriately
  • References and applies our internal   Delivery Framework in the context of delivering of business analysis functions and materials
  • Participates in the initiation and planning of projects - including facilitating the definition of objectives, scope, and deliverables as well as provide Business Analysis work estimates
  • Contributes to the operation and improvement of their aligned delivery system/program Exercises appropriate judgment in identifying and escalating risks and issues
  • Potentially (if/as required) lead the activities and output of other Business Analysts in the context of delivering an initiative
  • Builds solid partnerships with Business management and staff, Client Relationship and Application Managers, Project Managers and other key stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • University degree or equivalent experience (Business/Finance, Financial Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering)

Asset would be one or more of:  Process improvement methodology accreditation, CFA, Certified Enterprise Data Professional, Canadian Securities Course
  • Minimum experience of   4 years for Business Analyst or 7 years for Senior Business Analyst in the institutional investment industry
  • Excellent understanding of various asset classes including Equities, Futures, Fixed Income, FX and their derivative products
  • Ability to prioritize, coordinate and complete tasks to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, collaborating effectively with business, delivery and technology partners
  • Experience collaborating with project delivery and technology teams to deliver solutions that solve business problems and meet business requirements
  • Experience in translating business requirements to technical specifications
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with multiple levels of clients, team and partners
  • Robust understanding of agile and waterfall project management delivery methodologies and the difference between needs and wants
  • Proactive customer focus
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in planning and leading UAT
  • Experience with the following technologies (in order of priority) is an asset:  PL/SQL, Bloomberg, Markit EDM (Cadis), Oracle EDQ (Datanomic), SimCorp Dimension, Charles River Development, TopBraid

Role Description:

Working on project to replace our Enterprise Liquidity Risk Application (FLaRE)
  • Develop and support reports and in-house applications;
  • Work with business users to refine requirements;
  • Create and / or validate technical design documents;
  • Interface with service architect and other developers and contribute to technical decisions;
  • Interact with project managers / business analysts / team leads for effort estimates;
  • Write high quality Unit tested code;
  • Directly interact with business users to identify / resolve issues;
  • Facilitate UAT and QA testing;
  • Facilitate deployment of changes;
  • Other duties as may be required.

 

Skills (Mandatory):
  • At least 2-5 years’ experience for the following technologies
    • .Net (C#) WCF
    • Oracle
    • SSIS/SSAS
    • Javascript
    • End user interaction experience
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.

 

Skills (Nice to have):
  • Financial/Capital Markets application development experience
  • Risk Systems Implementation experience
  • Any Finance certifications an asset
